SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Quarry Pond in central Sioux Falls wasn’t always a pond. The men who decided to dig the large hole that would later be filled with water likely saw rock sticking out of it. “When you wanted to start a quarry, you wanted to look and see where the rock was,” Kevin Gansz, curator of education at the Siouxland Heritage Museum, said of the pond. The pond touches many parts of Sioux Falls history, from its original residents and the economic impact of the quarry’s industry.
