Manchester hasn’t been devoid of comedy this August, but there are a fair few local acts representing the city at the Edinburgh Fringe. Funz and Gamez, a success story in 2014 and 2015 and a very wrong kids show, has spawned three solo shows this year from previous members of the cast. Phil Ellis, Will Duggan and James Meehan all performed solo shows – they’ve not fallen out, they’re just spending some time apart.

As the students move back into their digs, comedy returns to Manchester too. Well, it hasn’t really been away (check out August’s blog if you don’t believe me) but there is certainly an increase in laughs out there as the touring shows gear up for the autumn and the monthly shows return after a summer break. As ever The Frog and Bucket and The Comedy Store are both offering a whole month of great stand-up shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights as well extra shows.

The feathers on the boas were wilting and the city was rapidly running out of double espressos, but with a squirt of hairspray and a sprinkle of glitter we geared up for the final weekend… As ever the Edinburgh Fringe has been a lot of fun. I’ve seen loads of great work by many acts whose names I didn’t even know three weeks ago.
