Serving documents on a company in Australia has become a bit harder
Serving a company in Australia is not an informal process. It must be done strictly in accordance with section 109X of the Corporations Act 2001. One permitted method is by delivering the document to a director who resides in Australia or an external Territory[1]. Sounds simple, until you try to find the director. In theory, the director might be at the registered office or usual place of business.

Expert Insights on Building Effective Partnerships To shed light on how organizations can successfully collaborate with PR agencies, Business Wire hosted a webinar titled "PR Experts Discuss PR." Industry leaders shared their top tips for identifying the right partner and nurturing a productive relationship. Here are the essential takeaways from these seasoned professionals: 1. Clearly Define Your Goals and Expectations What are you aiming to achieve with your PR efforts?
“IF”: a small word with big consequences
I have written several articles in the past about serving Creditor’s Statutory Demands (CSD) in Australia. A decision of the Federal Court of Australia just before Christmas 2024 [1] highlights that debtors who leave their registered offices empty take a big risk when a creditor serves a CSD there. One little word made all the difference.

Failing to hold a director ID? ASIC's first prosecution
In December, I wrote about the “war path” tactics the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) was using to achieve better compliance by directors in registering for their director identification number (DIN). On 19 March 2024, a director appeared in the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney and was formally charged with one count of contravening section 1272C(1) of the Corporations Act 2001 by failing to have a PIN. The matter is listed again for mention on 16 April 2024.

Director Identification Numbers - ASIC is on the war-path
Late in the course of the COVID pandemic, the Corporations Act was amended to provide for the mandatory obligation upon company “officers” (in this context, a director of a company) to apply for a “director identification number” (DIN).

Letter to the editor: Property tax bills should be reduced for this kind of unit
I, along with many others in Summit County, own a two-bedroom, two-bath condo measuring about 1,000 square feet in a nice area. This is the first year the appraised value is higher than actual value. I know that because I researched November and December 2022 sales of similar units. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the June 30, 2022 sales, but they are available at the Summit County Assessor’s Office.
Letter to the editor: Dog owners who do this on the recpath are dangerous
This is to the lady who thinks it’s fun to run her dog on a long leash while riding her bike on the Frisco bike and recreation path. On the downhills, it’s hard for your dog to keep up. The pavement can be tough on its paws. It’s dangerous. If another rider sees the dog on the long leash all the way across path, there’s a good chance he’ll have to ride over the leash ,pulling the dog, the other rider and him or herself down in a big tangle. Someone could get hurt.
How Do You Build Your Own Home Bar?
A trip to Baccarat’s Miami boutique in the Design District is a great place to start - they are one of just a few Baccarat locations in the US that have not only a comprehensive retail offering but a full-service bar. Pop in for a drink, and you might just get inspired. Next, you’ll need to find a location within your home that makes sense for your bar. This can be as small as a dedicated space in your kitchen - counter space or nook in your cabinet - to an area in your den, living room, or patio.
Letter to the Editor: Come on, post office, pay staff a competitive wage
Today I mailed a letter to a Frisco address. It is about 20 steps from my P.O. box. Will my letter instead go to Denver and back in about seven days? That’s what happened to an earlier letter. Why can’t Summit County mail be sorted and delivered in the county in a day or two? Too much important mail gets delayed or lost for days. Come on, post office, pay staff a competitive wage. We pay you more every year. See more As a Summit Daily News reader, you make our work possible.
Letter to the Editor: Nobody dies in Summit County, they all go to the Front Range
There’s a saying that nobody dies in Summit County; they all go to the Front Range to die. The truth to that statement is that their last days are likely spent in assisted living or memory care in Evergreen, Denver or Boulder, far away from family and friends. Other nearby resort counties like Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin, Routt and even Grand counties have had a place to house old folks who need assisted living or memory care for years. Only Summit does not.
Letter to the Editor: Remember Camp Hale for its history, but also for its many leaders, pioneers
I’ve been quietly promoting Camp Hale for years. Some of you know I wear a badge that reads “M&CWTC 1955-57 Camp Hale.” I knew some of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers: Earl Eaton and Pete Seibert, who pioneered Vail, passed thru Loveland Basin when I was teaching skiing. Curt Chase became director of Aspen Ski School and retired here in Summit. Don Todd, who built a jewel-like house near Breckenridge, and his family were good friends. These guys were my heroes.
How To Build A Brilliant Home Bar
It’s important to know that you don’t need to hire a contractor or interior designer to create a stellar home bar — it’s entirely doable yourself with a bit of direction. First you’ll need to find a location within your home that makes sense for your bar. This can be as small as a dedicated space in your kitchen — counter space or a nook in your cabinet — or a larger area in your den, living room, or patio. Think of wherever makes sense and will be useful to you when entertaining.
Letter to the Editor: Recreation path dangers abound in Summit County this summer
I pedal along. “A bear just crossed the path,” someone warns. I keep an eye out, but the bear is gone. I keep on pedaling. “Look out for the moose,” I hear. There they are, a bull and two cows in a parking lot. They’re not close. I ride on. Around a corner I spot a guy on his phone. His bike blocks the path. “Heads up,” I cry. The guy doesn’t move his bike and keeps talking. I repeat, “Heads up,” as I edge past. “Learn how to ride,” he yells at me. Was that you?

Do you think Frisco and/or Breckenridge should bring back pedestrian main streets this summer? Frisco’s Pedestrian Promenade should return this summer, but Breckenridge’s Walkable Main should not. Letter to the editor: Summit County seniors still need a place to live
The strong reaction to the Summit County plan to build housing for senior citizens on the Fiester Preserve open space puts conservation ahead of people. Summit County does have a growing old age population. It is the only resort county in northern Colorado that does not have housing for seniors not able to care for themselves. Fiester is not the only possible location. I continue to believe land closer to the hospital is workable.

Opinion: Mark Addison: Why has the city remained silent on Yazzie sculpture?
By Mark Addison On Sept. 3, I made a formal complaint to the Boulder city manager and to City Council about the very long time it was taking to install an approved gift of a sculpture by Navajo artist Melanie Yazzie. Specifically, that the Department of Arts and Culture chose to delay placing this sculpture and used vague excuses to continue to do nothing for almost a year. There was no response from the city about my complaint. Not a word. On Oct.
Opinion: Mark Addison: Getting public sculpture installed in Boulder shouldn’t be this hard
By Mark P. Addison Have you ever made a gift to the City of Boulder? I am trying. There’s a person I know who is so kind and so generous that I believe she would give almost everything to anyone. She is a citizen of the Navajo nation but she lives not far from you. She is a professor of print making at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her name is Melanie Yazzie. Yazzie’s art is known to the Maoris of New Zealand and the Iñupiat of Alaska and even in Siberia.
Keep the cash flowing
With payment times in Australia being some of the longest in the world, it’s more important than ever for small-business owners to take proactive steps to protect their cashflow. A lack of a cashflow is a serious issue for any small business, often leading to stalled growth and increased financial pressure at a time you are trying to seize new opportunities to move your business forward. This is a growing issue in Australia, where delays in payment dates are among the longest in the world.
How we're waging the war on bar waste
With the increasing mountains of rubbish found at our landfills, individuals, businesses and regulators are turning more attention to reducing, reusing and recycling. Bars are no exception and there is increasing pressure to find a waste management programme and win the war on waste. Being on top of trends, when done properly is a good route to profitability.
Clairin Call
Wild beauty; the bounty of aromas; the fullness of flavor; the amazing unknown frontiers; this is a Clairin Call. So my partner in Rum/Rhum Marie King, Rum Expert, Drink Master and Program Director for LA's oldest Tiki Bar, the Tonga Hut brought me something to try-- and they were very interesting. I only had a brief visit, so no long rambles, but here are some observations.
Otoño en Jalisco
Cider n' spice, with tequila is nice! Nothing beats a good cider cocktail, and nothing beats a spicy cider cocktail when the season and temperature is applicable. Otoño en Jalisco has been one of my favorite offerings over the past few years. What started out as a seasonal take on a Margarita morphed into a unique and versatile libation that can be enjoyed at any temperature; whether it be shaken and served on the rocks, or piping hot as many traditional cider cocktails are served.
Whisk(e)y Of The Week: An Octomore That's Not (Just) About The Peat
I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but I won't sue myself for plagiarism, so here goes again — Bruichladdich is the most interesting distillery on Islay, which is the most interesting region of Scotland when it comes to making whisky.
The Overlook
Bringing the Swedish forest into drinks is something we’ve done before. This fir liqueur from Swedish Jonas Bronck’s Spirit is perfect to pair with pine-tasting Terroir gin from St George Spirits – bringing Sweden and America together in liquid form. The cinnamon syrup used to sweeten this lime-heavy cocktail, adds further earthy notes to the overall flavour profile of the drink. We think this recipe is perfectly balanced, and it’s just a joy mixing using these two top quality spirits.
National Margarita Day Cocktails
A Friday may not be a day normally celebrated but this year you have every reason to celebrate and be excited (other than it's one day closer to the weekend!) ~ it’s National Margarita Day (on 3/22)! Tres Agaves Tequila is proud to play a delicious role in everyone’s favorite cocktail while joining in on the tasty festivities by sharing a few Margarita recipes. Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot: Margarita Caliente Bring the heat with Jalapeño-infused agave syrup, which gives this drink a little extra kick.
Easy Citrus Cocktail Garnishes and Techniques
Citrus in Cocktails An overwhelming number of classic cocktails would not exist without citrus fruit. Classics like the Sidecar and Brandy Crusta rely on the sour notes and acidity of fresh lemon juice whilst menu staples such as the Daiquiri and Margarita would not be possible without the subtle bitter flavours and acidity of fresh lime juice. Citrus fruit is an integral component of cocktails – bringing sour notes, subtle bitterness and acidity – creating flavour whilst brightening up drinks.
Mezcalita
We love mezcal. This smoky agave spirit is so full of character and flavour, and it always makes for an interesting cocktail. In the Mezcalita, mezcal gets to be the star supported by its sibling tequila as well as fresh lime juice and sweet and nutty orgeat. The result, a cloudy cocktail that contrasts so nicely with the clear ice we used. The rubber coasters by @champ.co are made of recycled airplane tyres. And some of them just happen to have the exakt some colour as the floating Angostura!
