BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - There were audible gasps at the House Democratic caucus in late May when Speaker Jill Krowinski unexpectedly announced that she would not run for another term this fall. First elected 14 years ago, speaker since 2021, Krowinski says it’s time for new leadership and personally time for her to step aside. In the latest episode of 802 News, Mark Johnson spoke with the 46-year-old Burlington Democrat about the highs and lows during her time at this Statehouse.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Molly Gray was elected lieutenant governor in 2020. A year into her term, she announced her candidacy for the open U.S. Congress seat, but was soundly defeated in the Democratic primary by state Senator Becca Ballint, who won the general election and continues to serve in that office today. Gray went on to run the Vermont Afghan Alliance, a nonprofit assisting Afghans resettling here in the Green Mountains.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Aly Richards is running for governor. The former head of Let’s Grow Kids says she’s ready to apply the same strategic thinking that resulted in a major expansion in child care services to the pressing problems of today -- rising education costs, insufficient affordable housing, and a costly health care system.
