Blondie to return with the new album 'High Noon' next year and you can have a taste of it now
NEW YORK (AP) — One way or another, we're getting a new Blondie album. The pioneers of new wave are set to release “High Noon” early next year, a decade after their last outing, and on Thursday dropped the driving first single “Spectral Eyes,” written by Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths, who also plays on the track. “This album is classic Blondie — an amalgamation of all our different influences and eras into something new,” lead singer and songwriter Debbie Harry said in a statement.
Gene Shalit, longtime 'Today' show movie critic with bushy hair and massive mustache, dies at 100
NEW YORK (AP) — Gene Shalit, a movie critic and arts reporter for the “Today” show over four decades who was known for his puffy hair, oversized handlebar mustache and affection for groan-inducing puns, has died. He was 100.
I scream, you scream, we all scream, but 'Scream 7' is a...
Early in “Scream 7,” in one of those blasts of the franchise's signature, self-mocking irony, Neve Campbell is taunted for sitting out “Scream VI.” “It's not the same without you,” she is told. It's true: Campbell's Sidney Prescott is the plucky heart of this series, the original Scream Queen, the so-called Final Girl, who bites her lip and yet leaps into action when needed.

NEW YORK (AP) — Sondra Lee, a dancer and actor discovered by the legendary choreographer-director Jerome Robbins and originated the role of Tiger Lily on Broadway in “Peter Pan” and played Minnie Fay in the original production of “Hello, Dolly!,” has died. She was 97. Lee died Monday of natural causes in her New York City apartment, according to her friend and colleague, the Rev. Joshua Ellis, a former Broadway press agent.

NEW YORK (AP) — James Van Der Beek, a heartthrob who starred in coming-of-age dramas at the dawn of the new millennium, shooting to fame playing the titular character in “Dawson’s Creek” and in later years mocking his own hunky persona, has died. He was 48. A statement posted on the actor’s official Instagram page Wednesday said Van Der Beek died earlier in the day. “He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace,” the statement said.
Stephen Curry's animated basketball movie 'GOAT' is a di...
You'd expect an animated basketball movie with four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry in the producer's chair to be an easy lay-up. So why is “GOAT” such a brick? Despite a wondrously textured, kinetic world and some interesting oddball characters, the movie is undone by a predictable, saccharine script. It’s as easy to see the steps coming as a Curry three-pointer arching into the net.
Jason Statham sticks close to the formula as a lethal fo...
Jason Statham lives in a Scottish lighthouse when we meet him in “Shelter” and that's a pretty good analogy for Statham's usual movie role these days: Tall, cold, alone, tough, quiet and only intermittently illuminating.
The Bone Temple’ is a bonkers and trium...
You know what zombie movies never seem to have enough of? Dancing. They've got gore and screaming and lots of guttural snarling, but no boogie. That all changes with “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” and the dancing here is to — naturally off-kilter — 1980s heroes Duran Duran. The fourth entry in an ever-more engrossing franchise is absolutely bonkers — and a triumph. It mixes dark, queasy disembowelment and laugh-out-loud humor in a way that both subverts the genre and leads a way out of it, too.

NEW YORK (AP) — When Kendrick Lamar began his Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year, he picked a stage design likely familiar to anyone tuning in: a square, triangle, cross and circle. The Grammy-winning rapper — in front of more than 133 million people — chose to perform on a massive, industrialized grid of flashing lights resembling a giant PlayStation controller.
'Wake Up Dead Man' mixes religion and mystery in poor 'K...
After two installments of his “Knives Out” franchise skewered old and new money, director and writer Rian Johnson targets religion in his third, a gloomy and clunky outing that may test fans' faith in the filmmaker. “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” gets a new starry cast to orbit Daniel Craig’s foppish detective Benoit Blanc, mixes operatic overacting with sly humor and bites off more than it can digest attempting cultural satire. The pacing is off, too.
George Clooney stars in 'Jay Kelly,' a Hollywood tale of...
During his glittering career, George Clooney has played a casino thief, a Batman,a chain-gang convict, an assassin and a high-flying layoff artist. This fall, he's stretching even more, playing an utterly charming and gorgeous movie star. Kidding! Reality and fiction beautifully weave in and out in “Jay Kelly,” director Noah Baumbach's love letter to Hollywood that, in other hands, could so easily have become just a love letter to Clooney.
Movie Review: Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots will trigger tears in 'All of You'
There's something about Laura Sharp and Simon Tavistock. Close friends since college, they share jokes that no one else understands and instinctively know how to make the other feel better. “What’s the deal with you two?” a woman asks Simon after watching them interact. “We’re like BFFs,” he responds, which is true and also not completely true. What if these BFFs were really meant to be lovers?
