Much of Southern California is experiencing a cooler-than-normal start to October, with daytime highs mostly in the 70s and overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s. Metro Los Angeles saw overcast skies and light drizzle Friday morning thanks to a thick marine layer, which meteorologists say will also be the case on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

An area of low pressure over Southern California is keeping temperatures in check and bringing cloudy skies, drizzle, and even isolated thunderstorms to the region. Downtown Los Angeles, which hit 92 degrees earlier in the week, will see high temperatures only in the mid-70s from Friday through next Wednesday. Inland valleys and the Inland Empire will be in the low to mid-80s.

Heat advisories in place as Southern California braces for heat wave

Heat advisories are in place as Southern California prepares for at least two days of well-above-average temperatures. High pressure over the region will remain in control the next few days, bringing “really hot temperatures tomorrow and Thursday,” KTLA’s Mark Kriski said in Tuesday’s forecast. Most areas are expected to have afternoon highs 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
