My parents lived through a war when they were children. My most traumatic childhood experience was when the guacamole gun at the Taco Bell went dry.

The influence of viewing time on visual diagnostic accuracy: Less is more
1 BACKGROUND Concerns about the rate of diagnostic error in medicine are rising.1-3 Understanding the factors that contribute to diagnostic errors is critical if we are to correct or prevent them. Some scholars influenced by the default interventionist dual-process theory of cognition (dual-process theory) emphasise a narrow focus on individual clinician's faulty reasoning as a significant contributor.
A survey of medical school aspirant perceptions of an unexpected lottery‐facilitated admissions adaptation
1 INTRODUCTION Medical schools around the world experience tremendous application pressure. Qualified applicants vastly outnumber available spaces and determining which aspirants gain access is a complex challenge. The outcomes of medical school admissions are extremely important. In most health systems, those selected for matriculation will be conferred with considerable professional prestige and earning power.
The critical impact of traumatic muscle loss on fracture healing ‐ basic science and clinical aspects
Musculoskeletal trauma, specifically fractures, is a leading cause of patient morbidity and disability worldwide. In approximately 20% of cases with fracture and related traumatic muscle loss, bone healing is impaired leading to fracture nonunion. Over the past few years, several studies have demonstrated that bone and the surrounding muscle tissue interact not only anatomically and mechanically but also through biochemical pathways and mediators.

Doped silicon’s challenging behaviour - Nature Physics
Despite its technological importance, there remain gaps in our understanding of silicon’s electronic behaviour, especially at low temperatures. Measurements close to a metal–insulator transition show signs of a collective many-body quantum state. Crystalline silicon is a relatively simple solid and, with the use of doping techniques that control its electrical properties by introducing charge carriers, is the cornerstone on which modern technology is built.

Cervical Pneumatocele Following Total Thyroidectomy Presenting as an Air Thyrogram
Cervical pneumatocele, an abnormal collection of air in the neck, is a rare complication of thyroid surgery. Although most commonly noted intraoperatively or immediately postoperatively, delayed presentation may rarely occur.1 Differentiating from postoperative hematoma is a clinical challenge. We describe a case of delayed cervical pneumatocele presenting after thyroidectomy with a characteristic postthyroidectomy radiographic appearance.

Association of Study Methods and Industry Sponsorship With Inconsistent Performance of Molecular Assays for Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules
A subset (15%-25%) of thyroid nodules undergoing biopsy cannot be classified as benign or malignant. Under the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology, these cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules (ITNs) are categories III and IV.1 Molecular assays using genetic and/or gene expression data may help risk stratify ITNs, potentially guiding decisions to operate or observe.

Good practices in harnessing social media for scholarly discourse, knowledge translation, and education
Abstract Introduction There still remains a gap between those who conduct science and those who engage in educating others about health sciences through various forms of social media. Few empirical studies have sought to define useful practices for engaging in social media for academic use in the health professions. Given the increasing importance of these platforms, we sought to define good practices and potential pitfalls with help of those respected for their work in this new field.

Changes in Trends in Thyroid Cancer Incidence in the United States, 1992 to 2016
The incidence of thyroid cancer in the United States tripled between 1974 and 2013, increasing from 4.5 to 14.4 per 100 000 population.1,2 This increase has primarily been attributed to increasing detection of a subclinical reservoir of small thyroid cancers, although a concurrent increase in the true incidence of disease has not been ruled out.
