What was your first job as a journalist?
My very first piece was a strange one - I had to write an article for a newspaper in Bagamoyo, Tanzania during an immersion trip.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist involves sharing the beauty of your lived experiences with those around you.
Who do you wish followed you?
Hozier! One of the greatest Irish musicians of all time. His blend of soul, rock and the blues is like all of my favourite artists combined.
Why did you become a journalist?
I've always loved writing, and journalism is a beautiful method of delving into your passions - in my case, travel, sport, and music.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I loved writing my piece about Koh Lipe. My sole day there was like a tropical, paradisiacal dream that I look back on with great fondness.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Happy to talk anytime at all!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Listening to Sam Cooke, Hozier, or Jeff Buckley on vinyl. Or screaming at the TV as the Panthers lose yet another game.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I'll go for The Guardian. A nice, clean interface and high-quality news reporting and opinion pieces.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I think travel writing should be less about facts and figures, and instead focus on aesthetic beauty to inspire the reader.
