Anyone who has ever tended to a hive of honeybees knows there’s a meditation to the art and the practice. Frames of honeycombed hives are lifted cautiously out their boxes. Swarms are calmed with the puff of smoke. And honey, the liquid currency of the craft, is carefully scooped as the hive hums its droning, orchestral buzz of production. Its just this meditation that drew Trey Williams to the craft.

Runners, cyclists and scooter riders now have a safer and more convenient way to travel along Lake Erie. As of Wednesday, the Mandel Lakefront Trail was open and very much rideable. After two years of construction, and some $11 million, the path that runs parallel to North Marginal Road is the city’s first isolated walkway that links Downtown with parks on the city’s east side. The county will have an official ribbon cutting late September, a county spokesperson confirmed.

Millennia’s efforts to keep control of one of Downtown’s largest vacant buildings looks to be dead. On Tuesday, a federal judge rejected Millennia’s ask to extend for the second time a deadline to drum up a plan to pay the $41 million it owes on The Centennial at 925 Euclid Ave. The court appointed a receiver, John Lane, to oversee the building in January.
