Mark Orwoll’s Biography

Mark Orwoll has more than 40 years as a travel writer and editor, and 600-plus broadcast appearances as a travel expert on national and international media outlets, including more than 75 times on NBC's TODAY, both in New York and on location. He earned a Silver Award in the 2025 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year awards sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers. A published author (Just One Little Hitch, a travel memoir, Pleasant Villain Press; Cross Purposes. Pleasant Villain Press; John Wayne Speaks, St. Martin's Press; Teach Yourself e-Travel, Macmillan), Mark has more than 1,500 bylines in newspapers, magazines, and websites as a reporter, print columnist, and features writer. His current and recent publications include Slate, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Los Angeles Times, Go World Travel, Departures International, the Travel Channel, the Sydney (Australia) Morning Herald, East-West News Service, AAA, Town & Country, Travel Weekly, Matador Network, AARP, the Robb Report, TravelAge West, Everett Potter's Travel Report, Frommer's Travel, Insider Travel Report, Fodor's, and other respected titles.

His media expertise has been recognized by New York University, which appointed him an adjunct professor in NYU's graduate program in Publishing, where he earned a Teaching Excellence Award.
