Significant mitral regurgitation (MR) is an increasingly common disorder affecting nearly 10% of the US population aged >75 years and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in the setting of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and heart failure symptoms. Mitral valve repair or replacement improves morbidity and mortality in appropriate clinical contexts, but determination of optimal timing of these therapies can be clinically challenging.
