Faster payments use cases – What does the future of B2B payments look like? - CUInsight
When it comes to faster payment discussions, the most popular questions we hear are: What are some use cases of real-time payments? How do I show an ROI on the investment required to start on a faster payments journey? These are great questions, and the fact that we get them in some form in every introductory meeting we have shows us that the market is rapidly gearing up to move forward on their real-time payment projects.
Payments transformation - The Journey from engines, to hubs, to platforms
Publisher’s Note: CUInsight is hosting a free webinar Wednesday, October 6th titled, “Maximizing the Member Experience Through Payments”. We hope you’ll join us! Register here. Transformation is a term that is thrown around a lot in our industry, and when you take a look at banking and payments for the past 15 years—it’s understandable.
Request for Pay (RfP)—Exploring the new frontier of bill payments - CUInsight
When The Clearing House (TCH) launched the first new payment rail in the U.S. in over forty years, most of the focus (rightly so) went to the money movement functionality of the system. TCH’s RTP® Network officially brought the U.S. market to the modern money movement scene.
What are embedded payments?
The banking industry talks a lot about the fintech revolution, and some financial institutions are going so far as calling themselves tech companies. However, just beyond the normal lip service given to this topic is the real revolution that is happening behind the scenes at most U.S.-based financial institutions—payments transformation. We hear a lot about digital transformation as an umbrella topic, but the conversation sometimes lacks substance.
Biometrics in payments - dropping our collective masks
This isn’t a discussion on the benefits of masks… but instead, how to look forward in the payments space, particularly as faces start to re-emerge and one no longer needs to pay with their passcode at the POS (and beyond).
Digital transformation – Your guidebook has arrived - CUInsight
In one way or another, the same question about digital transformation is asked in nearly every panel or presentation I am a part of. Where should I start? It’s a tricky question to answer, as every financial institution finds themselves somewhere different on their digital transformation journey.
Top 8 Payment Authentication Tools for 2019
This article was originally published here The internet and mobile economy have been going through a boom in the last few years. As a result, the online identity authentication industry is growing and evolving quickly. Effective identity verification continues to be one of the greatest challenges facing business owners, payment providers, and card issuers. There are simply more risks online now. This is at the same time that online retail sales are expected to reach a record $2.48 trillion in 2018.
Singapore’s Mobile Ecosystems poised for Explosive Growth
Singapore is one of the most vibrant and evolving ecosystems of IT & mobile platforms that are pushing mobile & online payments towards new horizons. I have written about the role played by the banks in adding some vigor to this evolving theatre a few months back, but what we’re witnessing is the organic growth of these mobile ecosystems to become true Fintech testbeds where more players are joining in and creating something unique and propelling them in a new direction.

Ebury ranked as number one EURUSD forecaster on Bloomberg in Q4 201...
Ebury, fintech FX specialists headquartered in London, are pleased to announce that they have been named by Bloomberg as the most accurate EUR/USD forecaster in the fourth quarter of 2018. The EUR/USD pair is, unsurprisingly, the most competitive currency cross on Bloomberg. Finishing above 63 other eligible forecasters last quarter, Ebury beat all of the world’s major commercial and investment banks in the process.
2019 New Year's Financial Resolutions
Happy New Year! Welcome to a brand new year, and hopefully, at least when it comes to your financial situation, a brand new you. Have you made your financial New Year’s Resolutions yet? Perhaps the better question is, only one week into 2019, have you broken your New Year’s Resolutions yet? Resolutions can be hard to keep, with many, if not most, people ready to give up by February. Financial resolutions can be even harder to keep because, well, money is a difficult beast to conquer.
The value to Banks in using intelligence and 'as a-service offering...
The 2018 McKinsey Banking Review noted that, on average, between 2012 and 2017, banks valuations lagged those of allother industries, meaning that investors are and will be looking elsewhere for value. How will banks respond to this phenomena? In the UK it appears that revenue is now more important than cost control. In the two years to the start of 2018, the four major UK banks had a collective zero increase in revenue growth. Operating costs for that period were collectively reduced by 22%.
What it will take for bank branches to go away in the Fintech world
This talk has been around for years now. Ever since the very first Fintech companies attempted to start banking with different services, they have been touting on and on about the bank branch finally going away. But so far, the bank branches remain. Not only that but according to it seems like bank branches are not losing their popularity at all: US survey from 2016 reported that about 46 per cent of the people questioned had used the bank within a month, and 26% had used one within the week.
The 19 payments trends expected to make it big in 2019
Late last year, I compiled the payments trends which emanated from the SIBOS 2018 conference and which were shared across the Twittersphere by industry experts and colleagues alike. With the Christmas holidays, and 2018 for that matter, now something of a distant memory, below I reveal the 19 for 2019. APIs In an industry that loves three-letter acronyms, no three letters are seen as more strategic than A-P-I. Every RFI and RFP asks about them and every board room is discussing them.
One year on and none the wiser
MiFID has achieved the rare feat of becoming a genericized trademark. In the same way that Xerox stands for copy machines in general, MiFID has turned into a synonym for all financial markets’ regulation. Thinking about its scorecard on its first birthday, whether MiFID II really is ground-breaking, or deserving remains debatable. However, there is no doubt about its voluminous size. And it is because of this unusual size that even one year on, we are none the wiser.
MiFID II - One Year On
We are close approaching the anniversary of the most anticipated regulatory change in recent years – MiFID II. Sweeping into force on January 3, 2018 MiFID II brought with it a huge overhaul of the financial services industry that aimed to increase transparency, reduce costs for investors and clampdown on market misconduct in the financial industry. One year on, and it hasn’t been simple.
The failure of the KYC Utility Project in Singapore - a practical view
Based on the INDUSTRY BANKING KYC UTILITY PROJECT AFTER-ACTION REPORT issued by the Association of Banks in Singapore (https://abs.org.sg/docs/library/kyc-aar_15-nov-2018.pdf ) The idea of a KYC utility is not new. A bank I worked for – of which I will not mention the name -centralized trade operations for close to 50 other banks at a point in time; so why could that not be done for the CDD process?

The regulation vs competition debate: Is it time for new business models?
As Autumn turned to Winter and the Christmas tree went up, I’ve found myself daydreaming of a European holiday somewhere sunny. Maybe it’s the Instagram feed full of friends on a sojourn to Italy, France, or Germany, or the constant barrage of Premier League adverts on the NBC Networks (Let’s Go Gunners!), but earlier this year it was something else entirely that had me drifting off into a memory-induced Nutella-crepe state of euphoria.

Virtual currencies are very much a global reality
The last couple of years have seen virtual currencies come to the fore front, a decade-plus after the emergence of Second Life and its Linden Dollar. And now virtual currencies are among the hot topics at industry conferences. Led by bitcoin and all of its (positive and negative) buzz, virtual currencies are a concept with which an increasing amount of people are familiar, and a concept that may soon approach a tipping point in terms of wider use and acceptance.
Uber and lessons for the mobile wallet
Earlier this week I received a phone call that my car was ready to be picked up from its 20,000-mile service appointment. Nothing exciting there, although the call did come two hours early (a win of sorts). I found myself with the unenviable task of finding a lift to the dealership. Or, it used to be an unenviable task before Uber launched its UberX service in my area. Today, there are no more calls soliciting help from my friends and family in the middle of the day.
