Not every injury leads to a personal injury claim. In Lansing, many people assume that if they were hurt and someone else was involved, a case automatically exists. In reality, determining whether a claim should move forward requires a careful evaluation of how the incident occurred, what evidence exists, and whether the facts support legal responsibility. Over the years, I have reviewed many situations where injuries were real and serious, but the legal path forward was uncertain.

In early January 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security deployed a large contingent of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area as part of what DHS described as the “largest immigration enforcement operation ever,” intended to arrest individuals involved in fraud and other alleged crimes. Thousands of federal agents, including ICE officers, were sent to the Twin Cities under this operation.

Recent executive orders from President Donald Trump addressing marijuana and fentanyl reveal a sharp and telling divide in the federal government’s approach to drugs, setting the stage for significant legal consequences on both ends of the spectrum. After decades of sustained pressure from states, experts, and the public, marijuana is being reconsidered within a federal framework many have long argued is outdated and disconnected from scientific reality.
