Dunedin to prohibit motorized watercraft from launching off Causeway

DUNEDIN — City commissioners have directed staff to draft an ordinance banning the launch of jet skis and other motorized watercraft from the Dunedin Causeway, where an ongoing closure for storm repairs has spurred a resurgence of seagrass and native wildlife. Commissioners reached consensus at a June 2 work session, asking staff to work with the city attorney on the ordinance. Adopting it would still require two public hearings, City Manager Jennifer Bramley said.

St. Pete Beach to hand residents a do-it-once seawall guide

ST. PETE BEACH — Waterfront homeowners in the Don Cesar neighborhood and other flood-prone areas will soon be able to raise their seawalls to 5 feet above sea level using one of three city-supplied designs — and a single permit instead of four. The designs, which double as aquatic habitat, are meant to curb the street flooding that hits the area during king tides and small storms.
