OPINION: Pre-K is Progress We Can’t Afford to Lose
For more than two decades, Pennsylvania has been investing in our youngest learners. Year after year, budget after budget, across party lines and administrations, we’ve taken meaningful steps forward in growing access to Head Start and Pre-K Counts to help more children thrive in their earliest years and setting the stage for future success. To let that progress slip away now would be a big mistake. kAm#6D62C49 92D =@?8 D9@H? E96 :>A@CE2?46 @7 :?G6DE:?8 :? 9:89\BF2=:EJ AC6\< 65F42E:@?

Transportation in Pennsylvania is a bipartisan issue
With a bipartisan vote earlier this week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives took another step toward making a historic investment in our commonwealth’s future by advancing legislation to fund Pennsylvania’s roads, bridges, and transit systems. Now, it’s up to lawmakers to get the job done and send a bill to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s desk. Infrastructure investments have always been a bipartisan issue in Harrisburg.

Mark Schweiker: Hard-working Pennsylvanians ensure safe, secure elections Pennsylvania’s elections are safe and secure, featuring tried-and-tested systems that are proven to protect the vote and ensure accuracy in the results. Still, with November 5 just two weeks away, some voters are concerned about how our elections are run. They shouldn’t be. I’ve had a front-row seat to plenty of elections.

Still, with Nov. 5 barely a month away, some voters are concerned about how our elections are run. They shouldn’t be. I’ve had a front-row seat to plenty of elections. As Pennsylvania’s top executive, I worked directly with our Department of State to safeguard the built-in processes that protect the integrity of the system.

New PA 9/11 remembrance law a reminder for all Americans to remain vigilant

For those of us who faced the terrible impact of 9/11, it’s hard to believe that enough time has passed that college-age students were not alive on that day. It’s critical we ensure the memory of coordinated terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, is passed down through each generation. After all, as a nation, we promised to never forget. We swore to never forget. To that end, it’s important to acknowledge the legislation signed into law in June by Gov.

Get pre-K for Pa. done [opinion]
Few issues in Pennsylvania have united Republicans and Democrats over the years like the prospect of ensuring that our youngest learners are ready to succeed through high-quality pre-k programs such as Pre-K Counts and Head Start. In fact, a September Susquehanna Polling and Research poll showed that 94% of the state’s voters believe early learning is important, and 71% support increasing state funding to serve more eligible children in pre-k programs. There is good reason for this support.
Pa. needs second emergency response team
On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, the sun shone brightly. Little did we know that this beautiful day would end as the second deadliest, non-battlefield event on American soil in history. The dust had hardly settled when our Pennsylvania Task Force One (PA-TF1) deployed to help with the search and rescue efforts.

Every summer, the wondrous Delaware bathes us in hope and delight
By Mark S. Schweiker Summer along the majestic Delaware River has always been special to me and my family in our beloved Bucks County. The reawakening, with nature outstretching its arms in bucolic splendor, is breathtaking. That very moment has served as inspiration for some of America’s greatest artists — artists who called Bucks County “home.” It’s the place that Michener, a child of Doylestown, addressed so lovingly.

However, my support for D.A. Matt Weintraub’s re-election is based on his performance and working day and night to keep us safe here in Bucks County.
Guest Opinion: It’s time for America to put the 9/11 mastermind on trial
By Mark S. Schweiker Two decades ago, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was plotting the terrorist attacks that would murder thousands of Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. Terrorist cells were inside our country. America had no idea what was to come that morning. These terrorists would become possibly the most hated criminals in our nation’s history. Yet, as we head toward marking the 20th year since the 9/11 attacks, the loved ones of those Americans killed still await justice.

Let’s come together to boost economy
Former Gov. Mark Schweiker By Mark Schweiker America is divided. We see and feel it every day, and one can become discouraged. Then, when we recently marked the 19th remembrance of 9/11, something happened: Americans from all across the nation put politics aside and honored the brave people we lost. We were reminded of an earlier time when Americans came together magnanimously to overcome one of this country’s most difficult challenges. And we did overcome it.

Bold changes needed for federal tax code
Every year around this time, Pennsylvanians and Americans across the country are reminded (usually with frustration) of just how broken our tax code is. They fill out their paperwork, fork over a couple hundred dollars to an accountant, and hold their noses as they write a check payable to the U.S. Treasury in an amount that could easily finance a much-needed family vacation or any number of other worthier causes.
It's time to approve merit selection of Pa. appellate judges
Pennsylvanians have just emerged from a judicial election with a historic number of vacancies and a historic amount of spending and level of vitriol in attack ads. Well over $16 million was spent by groups and individuals with a vested interest in getting their chosen candidates elected. As leaders of this commonwealth, we are coming together across the political spectrum to urge state legislators to support merit selection of statewide judges when the proposal comes before them.
