VfB Stuttgart drew 2-2 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday to finish fourth in the Bundesliga and return to the Champions League, but Heidenheim and St Pauli were both relegated on the final day. Wolfsburg won 3-1 at St Pauli in the big dropzone clash to bag a relegation play-off berth. Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj punched the ball into his own net for 2-1 but appeals he was pushed were ignored.

Cologne eased their Bundesliga relegation fears on Sunday with a 3-1 home win over 10-man Werder Bremen, who remain three points above the danger zone. Luis Díaz equalized and was later sent off in Bayern Munich's eventful 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday as the nine-man champions saw their Bundesliga lead trimmed to nine points. Aleix García struck for the hosts after Díaz had given the ball away and an injury-hit Bayern then had Nicolas Jackson dismissed for a bad foul before half-time.

Twice champions Porto hold the upper hand over VfB Stuttgart after winning 2-1 in their Europa League last 16 first leg in Germany on Thursday. Freak own goal boosts Leipzig's top 5 hopes, Dortmund win
RB Leipzig - thanks to a freak own goal in injury time - emerged as big winners alongside Hoffenheim in the race for the Bundesliga's Champions League places on Saturday. Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen pushed out a cross but it hit Arthur Chaves and flew in to give fifth-placed Leipzig a last-gasp 2-1 home victory. Dahmen almost scored at the other end after going up for a very late corner.
Atalanta eliminate Dortmund with controversial late penalty
A debatable penalty in stoppage time helped Atalanta dramatically dump Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League as the Italians overturned a first-leg deficit to march into the last 16. The Germans were favourites coming into Wednesday's play-off second leg after their 2-0 win at home last week. But they could not cope with Atalanta's verve or their own frailties as Gianluca Scamacca, Davide Zappacosta and Mario Pašalić put the hosts 3-0 up.

Norway's surprise packages Bodø/Glimt completed their Italian job on Tuesday by humiliating storied Inter and reaching the Champions League last 16, where they will be joined by Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle United. Bodø, based in the Arctic Circle, won 2-1 at the San Siro in their play-off second leg to go through 5-2 on aggregate and set up a meeting with Manchester City or Sporting. Freiburg were among the teams to qualify automatically for the Europa League last 16 on Thursday despite a first defeat, with 10-man Roma snatching the last direct berth as the league phase ended. Table toppers Lyon and Aston Villa had already secured their guaranteed spot and will be joined by Midtjylland, Real Betis, Porto, Braga and Roma, who drew 1-1 at unseeded play-off side Panathinaikos despite Gianluca Mancini seeing red on 15 minutes.

Leaders Bayern Munich have lost for the first time in the Bundesliga this season after Augsburg came from behind to secure a famous 2-1 win at their big Bavarian neighbours. But Arthur Chaves exposed reserve Bayern keeper Jonas Urbig and Han-Noah Massengo netted an 81st-minute winner for 13th-placed Ausburg. Olise rattled the woodwork with the last action of the game.

VfB Stuttgart nudged up into the Bundesliga top four but their former player Jeong Woo Yeong snatched a point for visitors Union Berlin in a 1-1 draw on Sunday. The South Korean substitute refused to celebrate after levelling on 83 minutes after Chris Führich had given the hosts the lead. Stuttgart, German Cup holders and 2024 runners-up, have become a force again under Sebastian Hoeness having suffered two relegations since their 2007 Bundesliga title.

The 55-year-old Dutchman replaces Spaniard Xabi Alonso, who is joining Real Madrid.
