The Powerball jackpot rose to $207 million with a cash value of $89.3 million ahead of the Wednesday, Sept. 9, drawing, after no one took home the jackpot on Sept. 7. The drawing on Wednesday comes as the game undergoes its biggest expansion in years. For the first time, players in the United Kingdom can buy tickets and compete for the same top prize, potentially bringing millions of new players into the game as the jackpot climbs higher. Akron Beacon Journal Sept. 9, 2026, 7:09 p.m. ET Two people who were stranded in a boat on Springfield Lake were rescued by local residents, the Springfield Township Police Department said. Both the police and fire departments responded to the lake around 6:15 p.m. Sept. 8 for a report of an occupied boat that had broken down and was taking on water quickly. Officer Ty Klapp deployed a drone and located the boaters near the middle of the lake, the police department said in a Facebook post.

Sept. 9, 2026, 5:22 p.m. ET Akron Public Schools’ East Community Learning Center will be closed on Sept. 10 due to vandalism. In a press release, district officials said vandalism damaged the building’s chillers, which affects the school’s ability to adequately cool the building. All of after-school activities at East also have been canceled for Sept. 10. A temporary cooling unit is scheduled to be installed on Sept. 10.
