1 INTRODUCTION Engagement has gained wide attention in management scholarship during the last thirty years and proved essential for managerial practice, as it relates to crucial individual and organizational outcomes, regardless of the sector and industry of interest (Borst et al., 2020). Employees who are highly engaged tend to perform better (Anitha, 2014), are more committed to their organization (Hakanen et al., 2008), and are less often absent from work (Schaufeli et al., 2009).
