South Beach Yacht Club (SBYC) has debuted what may become the new “must-do” regatta for San Francisco Bay racers. Debuting March 14–15, the Kasio Cup PHRF-rated competition comprised four starts, with three short heats on day one and a long run on day two. Competitors faced skills challenges: Saturday dictated that all racers either stage a 720-degree turn on one race leg, or do six tacks on a leg.

As Halloween and then the holidays draw closer, fleets and yacht clubs around California are wrapping up their seasons and crowning this year’s champions. I myself just wrapped up a whirlwind past few weeks in which I raced in a regatta or practiced for an upcoming event for six of the past seven weekends. As the 2025 racing season draws to a close, now is the time to highlight the winners from the year.

As cited in E&E News, a proposal from the White House Office of Management and Budget seeks to drastically reorganize NOAA and plunder most of its climate research programs in fiscal 2026, with a possible budget reduction of 38% from $4.8 billion in 2025 to $3.47 billion in 2026.
