1 INTRODUCTION Soil carbon storage is crucial for ecosystem health and climate regulation; yet, the influence of land or nature protection on carbon accumulation and stabilization remains a complex and open question (Bossio et al., 2020; Gross & Harrison, 2019). Conservation practices are expected to enhance soil carbon by reducing disturbances and increasing ecological stability (Masciandaro et al., 2018), however, the mechanisms underlying these dynamics require further exploration.
