SHIVAMOGGA: Twenty-eight sand mining contractors have been found to have violated mining rules in Shivamogga district, which invited penalties notices of over Rs 68 crore. In a specific case in Dabbanagadde village, Tirthahalli taluk, unauthorised sand extraction of 2,116 metric tonnes led to a penalty notice of Rs 1.08 crore against the leaseholder.

Karnataka officials received Rs 9.65 lakh festival bonus despite being ineligible; government seeks probe

SHIVAMOGGA: Three officials from the revenue department in the district, including an assistant commissioner and a tahsildar, received a total of Rs 9.65 lakh as temple festival bonuses despite not being eligible for the payments, the state government has told to the Legislative Assembly. The government said the payments came into flash following a report submitted by the deputy commissioner on July 24.

Tourism promotion projects lag despite Central funding

SHIVAMOGGA: Three tourism infrastructure projects in the state backed by the Centre have reported zero physical progress, while several other projects sanctioned under Central schemes have made only limited progress. The projects with zero physical progress are the development of Sri Renuka Yallamma Temple at Savadatti in Belagavi district, the development of Savadatti Yallammagudda and the development of Bidar as a heritage tourism destination.
