What was your first job as a journalist?

Covering an etiquette class for girls at a children's museum.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, an electric one, to write a book about my father's life for a school project.

How is social media changing news?

Quite honestly, it is changing news for the worse because it facilitates the spread of misinformation on a massive scale.

Mikael Blomkvist

Email, or the contact form on my website.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MacBook, Notes app, a Sharpie pen and a little notebook.

LinkedIn.

Why did you become a journalist?

I just love to write. I will write no matter what.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, I was hanging out in the darkroom.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My novel, Bloody Mary.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be resilient, stay true to yourself. Have patience and be kind to yourself. Read, a lot.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Pretty much anytime.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee with half and half.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Walking around the Lower East Side.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Probably Vanity Fair.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That foodie culture is for elitists only. The environmental and cultural impacts food has on our world affect people from all walks of life.
