Celebrating the life of Grace McIntosh

This is an abridged version of the eulogy given at the funeral of Grace Margaret Williamson McIntosh on May 15th, 2026 Grace was born in Kirkcaldy on 28 September 1928. Her arrival in the world was marked by tragedy. Her mother died shortly after giving birth, leaving a grieving husband, a five-year-old son, John, and a newborn daughter who would grow up with no memory of the mother she had lost. Yet that mother was never absent from Grace's life.

ABSTRACT Engineering identity is a developing construct within the field of engineering that has been found to be a strong predictor of engineering persistence, retention, and success. While the theoretical definitions and operationalizations of the construct have matured, instruments used to measure engineering identity lack in one vital component – they are not embedded in traditional identity theory reflecting identity formation as the two successive processes of Exploration and Commitment.

Antiplatelet therapy reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular death in patients who have symptomatic peripheral artery disease. However, a subset of patients who take aspirin continues to have recurrent cardiovascular events. There are few data on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with peripheral artery disease who manifest aspirin resistance.
