Mary Shomon’s Biography
Patient advocate and author Mary Shomon transformed her 1995 thyroid diagnosis into a mission to educate and empower others struggling with hormonal conditions.
Mary has written a number of best-selling books on thyroid disease, hormones and weight loss, and is a nationally-known patient activist. Since 1997, Mary has bee the "Guide" to the popular About.com site on thyroid disease, http://thyroid.about.com, which is one of the English-speaking world's most popular thyroid-related sites. In addition to her work with About.com, Mary founded Thyroid-Info -- http://www.thyroid-info.com -- and has co-starred on a popular PBS health special: Healthy Hormones: Brain-Body Fitness, that has been shown on PBS stations around the country since 2011.

Mary's 2004 book -- revised and updated in 2012 -- "The Thyroid Diet Revolution: Manage Your Metabolism for Lasting Weight Loss," was a New York Times best-seller, an Amazon.com Top 10 Health book of 2004, and Quills Awards semi-finalist.

Mary serves on the faculty of the nation's premier holistic health training center -- the Open Center in New York City -- where she teaches seminars on health, hormones, adrenal health, and thyroid disease.
