Interview

How is social media changing news?

Everyone can have a shot at capturing images and telling stories. Now, more than ever, journalists have to pursue the truth.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell stories that matter. To tell the truth and connect people to events, places, and each other. To pursue honesty at all costs.

Who do you wish followed you?

I could name thousands of people, but for the sake of time, Lynsey Addario and William Finnegan would make my year.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I didn't. Writing was always a secret passion. However, my teachers knew my talent for words and telling stories would come out eventually.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I'm surfing in the ocean or lake (yes, you can surf the Great Lakes!). Or, I'm playing music or hiking with my wife.
