Singapore August 2026: GAC at all-time high, Chinese at 51.7% share

GAC sales are up 145.1% year-on-year in August. 4,549 new cars hit Singaporean roads in August, a -2.2% year-on-year contraction. The year-to-date tally remains in frank negative however at +10.3% to 36,646. BYD (+19.6%) ignores the negative market to reach a whopping 24.2% share, its best since last May. Tesla (+1.1%) advances one spot on July to #3, passing a struggling Toyota (-27%). Mercedes (-42.2%) performs even worse but manages to stay in 4th place.

Vietnam August 2026: VinFast up to record 41.6% share, Mitsubishi up 47.2% in market up 19.4%

The Mitsubishi Triton is up to #5 in Vietnam in August. Data by VAMA, Hyundai and VinFast show a Vietnamese new vehicle market up 19.4% year-on-year in August to 48,484 units. This brings the year-to-date tally up 27.5% to 436,333. Local EV maker VinFast (+84.6%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year to reach a record 41.6% share, eclipsing its previous  best of 40.9% reached last April.

China retail July 2026: Sales off -21.9%, Arcfox, MG, Zeekr among biggest gainers, Aistaland and Freelander start

The Freelander brand has… landed in China. Today with the usual slight delay we can share with you All brands and All models retail sales data for China in July. The market continues to freefall at -21.9% year-on-year to 1,411,045 units for the selection of vehicles included in this report. After 7 months, sales are off -20.3% or 2.5 million units (!) to just 9,833,094.
