Eight Ohio high schools opt up to Division I football

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Eight schools have opted to move up this fall and play Division I high school football, including five in Northeast Ohio. All five — Austintown Fitch, Cleveland Heights, Elyria, Euclid and Hudson — will compete in Region 1, which has been won by St. Edward for the last five seasons. The other three to move up are Clayton Northmont, Dublin Scioto and Toledo St. John’s Jesuit, which will compete in Region 2.

Brett Larrick resigns as Elyria boys basketball coach

ELYRIA, Ohio — Brett Larrick is not returning as Elyria’s boys basketball coach. The school announced Wednesday that Larrick has resigned, which the coach confirmed later in the day. His decision follows one of the program’s deepest tournament runs in school history, making it to the OHSAA Division I regional finals. “I have decided to step down,” Larrick said in a statement. “I want to thank my staff that has worked with me over the years and helped us be so successful.
