Zero-code Kubernetes observability with eBPF demo
OpenTelemetry eBPF Instrumentation (OBI) is a recent addition to OpenTelemetry's toolkit for zero-code instrumentation, donated to the OpenTelemetry (OTel) project by Grafana in mid-2025. The project originally started as Grafana Beyla in 2023 with the goal of helping users to get started quickly with application observability using eBPF. eBPF is a technology that allows programs to run inside an OS.

Adding the SDK instrumentation Here's the output we should see from the demo script when moving on to phase 2: The backend has been swapped for an image with the same functionality, now carrying OpenTelemetry's own SDK instrumentation. OBI notices the service has started exporting its own OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) traces and automatically backs off, suppressing its own backend traces to avoid duplicates, while still contributing that service's span, service-graph, network and process metrics.
API caching strategies and best practices
API caching can increase the performance and response time of an application, but only if it's done right. Learn about some of the caching tools and techniques worth implementing. By Matt Grasberger, Red Guava Published: 27 Oct 2025 When implemented correctly, API caching can reduce an application's load and increase responsiveness. Caching can be a more efficient way of serving data to customers that reduces costs and improves performance.
6 essential refactoring techniques to know
By Matt Grasberger, Red Guava Published: 28 May 2025 Code refactoring is an important process in software development that involves restructuring code without changing its functional behavior. Refactoring is important for many reasons, with the main reason being to improve the code's design and maintainability. As teams add changes and features to any form of software, there always arises the opportunity to refactor.
The benefits and limitations of headless browser testing
Headless browsers offer efficient web UI testing but lack the visual debugging capabilities of traditional browsers, making assessing the app's state upon test failure challenging. By Matt Grasberger, Red Guava Published: 28 Mar 2025 Headless browsers are a great way to speed up tests and gain more efficiency out of the hardware they run on, but they might not be ideal for debugging failing tests or tests where you'd want to see a screenshot in the case of a failure.
Best practices for writing clean code comments
Well-written code comments are a great tool to explain code intent. Use these tips to ensure your comments are adding value to source code, not cluttering it up. By Matt Grasberger, Red Guava Published: 03 Mar 2025 Code comments are a commonly misunderstood feature of programming languages. Getting them right can be the difference between enhancing source code and adding confusion. Helpful comments in your code enable other developers to more quickly understand the design of your codebase.
How to validate a Kubernetes manifest
Dev teams must validate Kubernetes manifests. Developers can navigate validation and issues that arise with the help of native and third-party tools and other coding methods. By Matt Grasberger, Red Guava Michael Levan Published: 17 Oct 2025 Kubernetes manifests are crucial to managing Kubernetes clusters and the software running on them.
