The U.S. Postal Service says the Baytown Post Office is operating normally and local management has reported no increase in service issues, even as a supervisor faces felony charges for stealing a $3,600 autographed basketball card from the mail and possessing a controlled substance.

Baytown City Council is set to consider forming a new General Obligation Bond Committee to provide continuity and public oversight for the two bond propositions voters approved last November, according to an agenda posted on the city’s website.

As we were cleaning out old files at The Baytown Sun before moving from our longtime location at 1301 Memorial Drive to our new home at 313 South Highway 146, one folder caught my eye. Marked simply “UFO — Unidentified Flying Objects.” It contained yellowed newspaper clippings detailing local sightings over the decades. Those clippings hinted at a long history of strange lights and silent shapes in the skies over Baytown and the surrounding Gulf Coast. But they were just the beginning.
