Every Friday night at Good Samaritan Society – Fort Collins Village in Colorado, activities assistant Jenna Steckline breaks out her guitar and dazzles residents with their favorite tunes. “An easy way for me to instantly connect with people is through my music,” Steckline says. “(Residents) want something on a Friday night just to kind of let loose.” Taking residents’ requests, Steckline strums and sings hits from Patsy Cline, The Supremes and more.

For 14 years, Steve Reves rolled up to a Kansas tire factory and methodically crafted rubber wheels in a somewhat isolating environment. “It was just me and a machine putting tires together,” Reves says. He didn’t think of switching jobs until a shoulder injury forced him to consider alternative employment. Reves’ high school experience, working as a nursing home dietary aide, led him to check out opportunities at Good Samaritan Society – Wamego.

Growing up on a farm in eastern South Dakota, Sally Kangas thought she was destined for a career in agriculture. “When I graduated from high school, I was scared of blood. Was never going to be a nurse,” Kangas says. She earned a degree in agriculture business, but after college, something was missing. A desire to care for others and be of service led Kangas back to class – this time, for a degree in nursing. “I try to talk a lot of people into the nursing field.
