A report from WWF and CDP, ‘Insights from a 3.2°C Market – Turning Temperature Scores into Action’ published on Wednesday (24 June) found that current corporate climate targets are aligned with a 3.2C trajectory. Launched during London Climate Action Week, the report analyses the short, medium and long-term targets of listed companies representing approximately 85% of global market capitalisation.

Companies Committed to 100% Renewable Electricity by 2050 Surpass France's Annual Consumption

There are now more than 400 companies signed up to the RE100 initiative’s commitment to consuming 100% renewable electricity by 2050, with major brands including Apple, Google and Sony all members. The RE100 has confirmed that, if its collective members were a country, it would be the world’s 10th largest in terms of electricity consumption. The companies have surpassed 500TWh per year of electricity demand and are committed to transitioning to 100% renewable electricity.

UK Pledges £1.6bn to Combat Climate Crisis

Sunak made the announcement at the G20 summit in India over the weekend. The £1.62bn financial package will be delivered as part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which was established at COP15 as a global fund to help developing countries reduce emissions and adapt to the climate crisis. The UK’s new pledge is its single largest contribution to the fund, and represents a 12.7% increase on the previous commitment, which itself was more than double the UK’s first funding back in 2014.
