Driver sentenced for killing motorcyclist in national recreation area

July 27, 2026, 5:49 p.m. ET A Bushkill man has been sentenced to federal prison for a fatal DUI crash in June 2024 in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Christopher M. Thomas was sentenced on July 22 to four years and nine months in prison by U.S. District Judge Karoline Mehalchick for crashing into a motorcyclist and killing him. The motorcyclist was not named in Thomas' indictment.

Monroe County man pleads no contest to strangling family member

July 24, 2026, 3:44 p.m. ET A Monroe County man has pleaded no contest to strangling a family member over an estate dispute. On July 24, Leonard Gearhart, 60, of Jackson Township, pleaded no contest to two second-degree misdemeanor charges of strangulation and simple assault. The plea was accepted by Monroe County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jonathan Mark, who was filling in for Judge Jennifer Sibum.

A member of Stroudsburg Borough Council resigned from his position. On July 21, the borough council unanimously accepted, with his absence, the resignation of former council member Joseph Shay.
