Saft to supply 356 MWh battery storage project in Taiwan

From ESS News The Saft battery-making subsidiary of French oil major TotalEnergies has secured a contract to supply 356 MWh of containerized batteries to a Taiwanese energy company. Saft will supply 108 of its Modular Intensium-Shift (I-Shift) battery containers to a project in Taichung that will begin this year and continue through 2026. The deal marks Saft’s fifth contract award from Foxwell Power, which is owned by electronics manufacturer Foxlink Group.

Fluence expands US battery production with new Texas fab

From ESS News German-American battery storage manufacturer Fluence has completed the “onshoring” of another part of its supply chain to the United States with the start of operations at a new fab in Houston, Texas. Fluence, owned by German electronics giant Siemens and US utility AES Corp., has announced the start of production of thermal management systems, including HVAC and chiller equipment, for its Gridstack Pro products at the Houston site.

US battery supplier Powin files for bankruptcy

From ESS News Oregon-based LFP battery supplier Powin has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey. Last week, the battery business notified local and state officials of a potential cessation of business operations, warning that almost 250 staff, including senior executives, could be laid off if business conditions did not improve by July 28. Powin was required to issue the notice at least 60 days ahead of planned closures or layoffs, as an employer with at least 100 staff.
