I'm Deputy Opinion Editor of Bay Area News Group (includes The Mercury News and The East Bay Times), focused on the politics, economics and culture of the Bay Area, particularly Silicon Valley and South Bay cities and counties. I'm also an award-winning investigative journalist and columnist who has written for The Wall Street Journal, CBSi's CNET.com, ALM's Law.com and Village Voice's LA Weekly. My columns on California, US and global affairs have appeared across 25 daily newspapers spanning the United States, including the Sacramento Bee, the Kansas-City Star, the Miami Herald, the Idaho Statesman, the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the Charlotte Observer, the Wichita Eagle, etc. I've won journalism awards from the Western Publishing Association, the California Newspaper Publishers Association and the Foundation for Biomedical Research.
