Psychotropic drug-induced lipid disturbances: a genome-wide association study in a Swiss psychiatric cohort
Abstract Dyslipidemia affects patients with severe mental illness to varying degrees, partly due to medication side effects and genetic variations that modify drug-induced lipid changes. To identify these genetics contributors, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on 829 patients of the PsyMetab cohort whose total-, LDL-, HDL- cholesterol and triglyceride levels were recorded pre- and up to one-year post psychotropic treatment.
Herpes simplex encephalitis due to a mutation in an E3 ubiquitin ligase - Nature Communications
Abstract Encephalitis is a rare and potentially fatal manifestation of herpes simplex type 1 infection. Following genome-wide genetic analyses, we identified a previously uncharacterized and very rare heterozygous variant in the E3 ubiquitin ligase WWP2, in a 14-month-old girl with herpes simplex encephalitis.
Reindeer in the Arctic reduce sleep need during rumination
Highlights • The Arctic's seasonally changing light conditions affect reindeer sleep-wake rhythms • Homeostatic sleep pressure increases less in summer and fall • Rumination reduces sleep pressure like non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep • More time for sleep recovery may facilitate high food intake in summer Summary 1 Campbell S.S. Tobler I. Animal sleep: a review of sleep duration across phylogeny. Neurosci. Biobehav. Rev.
Model integration of circadian and sleep-wake driven contributions to rhythmic gene expression reveals novel regulatory principles
Abstract Transcriptome studies aim at gaining insight into the molecular pathways underlying biological processes. Analyses of gene-expression dynamics in research on circadian rhythms and sleep homeostasis describe these two processes independently, using separate models such as sinusoidal oscillations and exponential saturating functions. Rhythmically expressed genes are, however, influenced by both processes.
Towards mouse genetic-specific RNA-sequencing read mapping
Loading metrics Open Access Peer-reviewed Research Article ? This is an uncorrected proof. Abstract Genetic variations affect behavior and cause disease but understanding how these variants drive complex traits is still an open question. A common approach is to link the genetic variants to intermediate molecular phenotypes such as the transcriptome using RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq).
Towards mouse genetic-specific RNA-sequencing read mapping
Abstract Genetic variations affect behavior and cause disease but understanding how these variants drive complex traits is still an open question. A common approach is to link the genetic variants to intermediate molecular phenotypes such as the transcriptome using RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq). Paradoxically, these variants between the samples are usually ignored at the beginning of RNA-seq analyses of many model organisms.
A systems genetics resource and analysis of sleep regulation in the mouse
Sleep is essential for optimal brain functioning and health, but the biological substrates through which sleep delivers these beneficial effects remain largely unknown.
