Searching for the program’s fourth straight Ivy League Championship and potential playoff redemption, the Harvard football team has begun to prepare for its 153rd season, with practices starting late last week. Notably absent from the field, however, are the four players who graduated and transferred to Power Four FBS programs, and the sixteen others who graduated in the spring. Luckily for third-year head coach Andrew Aurich, another season of football brings another class of freshmen newcomers.

After sitting in the stroke seat throughout the third straight undefeated season for the lightweight varsity eight, captain Ben Lundie was selected as this year’s lightweight recipient of The Oarsman award by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA). The IRCA created the Oarsman award to emulate the prestige of the Heisman Trophy for collegiate rowing. Three awards for men’s lightweight, heavyweight, and Division III rowers were first presented in 2025.

Harvard travelled to West Point on Saturday, defeating Army with a final score of 75-52, moving the Crimson to 3-1 in the out-of-conference slate to begin the season. “I thought it was a great team win and team effort,” Harvard’s Head Coach Tommy Amaker said after the game.
