The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry has seen unprecedented levels of technological advancement. Regulators around the world have been tasked with creating policy and legislative frameworks for this fast-moving industry. We outline the latest trends to consider when developing mobility policies as the industry works towards post-pandemic recovery.

Israel is one of the world’s leading innovators in the mobility sector, having generated some $35 billion worth of innovations such as technologies for self-driving cars. However, anyone who’s visited the country would admit its own transportation system is lagging. It relies heavily on single-occupancy rides and inefficient, fragmented public transport, resulting in traffic jams, high levels of pollution and poor access.

Groundbreaking technologies could change the way we commute, offering faster, cleaner and more convenient ways to travel, but many transport systems are lagging behind these possibilities. A pilot project in Israel shows how public-private partnerships can re-invent the commute of the future, for example by using algorithms that design “smart commutes” and route public transport accordingly.
