High bacteria counts in the water prompted the advisory from the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County. Aug. 26, 2026, 10:49 a.m. ET Health officials issued a no-swim advisory for Coral Cove Park in Tequesta due to high bacteria levels. Water samples showed elevated levels of enterococcus bacteria, which can cause internal infections. The detected bacteria level was more than double the amount considered safe by health officials.

Aug. 26, 2026, 7:36 a.m. ET The invasive Asian swamp eel is considered a major threat to the Everglades, potentially more harmful than Burmese pythons. These eels disrupt the food chain by preying on crayfish, frogs, and small fish, which are vital food sources for native wading birds. Asian swamp eels are difficult to catch as they are covered in mucous, can breathe air and hibernate in mud during dry periods.
