What was your first job as a journalist?
Covering some of Rochester's east-side suburbs for the Democrat and Chronicle.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Keyboarding was my first-period class in my senior year of high school. I was late every day. Mrs. LoBiondo said I would never be a typist.
How is social media changing news?
Social media is opening up the news, making it more accessible and immediate.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Les Nessman.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Politely. And, generally by email.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google Docs, Google Drive, iPhone, HTC One, laptop, iPad, pen, paper, Microsoft Office.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. I like the immediacy and long reach.
Why did you become a journalist?
Curiosity killed the cat.
