Even though there are dozens of fairs in Maine each year, there are a few that feel more iconic. The Skowhegan State Fair, the Fryeburg Fair, and Bangor State Fair, for example. Of course, for many, the most iconic fair in Maine has to be the Windsor Fair. It is the state's second largest fair, only slightly smaller than Fryeburg Fair, featuring 50 acres of rides, food, games, shows, and exhibits.

If you’ve never watched a bunch of hot air balloons take off at the same time, the Lewiston-Auburn Balloon Festival seems like a pretty good reason to get up early. It’s happening August 21–23 at Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston, and the balloons are definitely the part I’d be going for. Weather permitting, the balloons are scheduled to launch at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

There are few things more Maine than spending a September day outside, eating cheese made by people who probably know the cows by name. On Sunday, September 13, the 10th annual Maine Cheese Festival returns to Manson Park in Pittsfield, bringing together cheesemakers, farmers, food producers and plenty of hungry Mainers. This isn't really the kind of festival you rush through. It's more of a wander-around-with-your-friends kind of day.

If you walked by Rift Arcade in downtown Biddeford recently and noticed the doors were closed, don't panic, it's not game over. The Poppin’ Pumpkin Latte is back for its second year after first making its debut in 2025. It officially returned on August 17 and is available hot or iced at participating Aroma Joe’s locations. According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, two Waterville residents have been arrested following a month-long investigation into suspected drug trafficking from a residence on Western Avenue in Waterville. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Maine State Police, Waterville Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives carried out a search warrant Thursday, August 202th, at 15 Western Avenue.

According to an article on the WMTW website, another Powerball ticket worth $50,000 has been sold in Maine. The Maine Lottery says the winning ticket from Wednesday night’s drawing was sold at Gary’s Quick Stop in Richmond. The ticket matched four of the five white balls and the red Power Ball. No one hit the Powerball jackpot Wednesday night, which means it will grow to an estimated $48 million for Saturday’s drawing. The winning numbers were 10, 21, 58, 61 and 64, with a Power Ball of 17.
