Seattle Seahawks fans could have told Chiefs Kingdom exactly what was coming. When the Kansas City Chiefs signed Kenneth Walker III away in free agency on a three-year, $43 million deal with $28.7M guaranteed, the selling point was obvious: a recent Super Bowl MVP who piled up 313 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in a deep postseason run. For a backfield that posted the lowest explosive RB rush rates of any team this century, per ESPN's Ben Solak, Walker is a godsend.

No. 17 is the rare Chiefs number with too many decent candidates and yet no obvious king. We have a revolving door of veteran quarterbacks, a wide receiver with a real place in NFL history, and a jersey whose single most famous moment technically belongs to a different number entirely. But this is what makes exploring each number in Kansas City history so fun.

Kader Kohou was one of a handful of defensive free agents the Kansas City Chiefs added this offseason. The former Miami Dolphins cornerback suffered a torn ACL before last year's regular season. After missing all of 2025 due to injury, Kohou became a cheap addition. The mix of time missed last season, a small salary, and past progress as a former undrafted free agent made him an intriguing buy-low signing.

With some numbers, it's easy to say "there's no debate", but that's literally true for No. 16. The 2025 season will go down in the history books as a massive disappointment for the Kansas City Chiefs. After reaching the Super Bowl three years in a row, Kansas City failed to even qualify for the postseason and recorded its first losing record since 2012. So, yes, 2025 was a historic failure for the Kansas City Chiefs.

JuJu Smith-Schuster knows there are no guarantees ahead of him. The veteran wide receiver will be suiting up for the New York Giants this summer at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. (It's a change of address due to World Cup logistics.) For Smith-Schuster, it's an uphill battle to prove his value to a new coaching staff after spending three of the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Travis Kelce is back for a 14th season. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. That uncertain future at tight end is what drives some Kansas City Chiefs fans crazy about the current roster. Kelce was, again, one of the top players at his position in 2025, and there's every reason to believe he has enough in the tank to produce at a high level again in '26. But for such an important position, the level of play could drop precipitously as a new era unfolds for Patrick Mahomes and company.

There's no surprise here, and any teasing would only insult you. We've arrived at No. 15 in our journey to figure out the best player to ever wear each number—1 to 99—in Kansas City Chiefs history, and our primary subject is not only the greatest quarterback in the National Football League right now but he's also the best player to ever wear a Chiefs uniform. That kinda sorta removes any mystery to the piece. But we're okay with that.
