The Kansas City Chiefs could have an offensive tackle problem again this season. During the Chiefs' tumultuous 2025 season, many fans wrote off their poor offensive tackle play as a result of some bad injury luck. When draft "experts" suggested they consider an offensive tackle in the first round, many fans laughed at such an absurd suggestion.

It was a scene right out of a fairy tale: the local kid drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by his hometown team in the year the draft was held in Kansas City. The only thing keeping this Hollywood story from having a happy ending was that Felix Anudike-Uzomah needed to actually deliver on his draft slot. Unfortunately for everyone involved, FAU's first three seasons were a complete and total bust for a first-round pick.

The Kansas City Chiefs made landing a quality backup quarterback a priority this offseason because of the uncertain timetable for Patrick Mahomes’ return from his knee injury. Justin Fields was a logical target since he had started over 50 games for the Chicago Bears and New York Jets over the first five seasons of his NFL career.
