Jim Gavin will represent Fianna Fáil in the upcoming Presidential election. The former Dublin football manager was chosen at a parliamentary party meeting earlier today. Members of the parliamentary party voted between Jim Gavin and Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher. He was selected as Fianna Fáil's candidate on a margin of 41 votes to 29.

News Extras are needed for a short film being filmed in Waterford. According to the Waterford Film Centre, people are needed for a very important scene that is set at a communion celebration. The filming will take place on Monday September 22nd between 10am and 4:30pm at the Mount Sion Centre. Kilkenny News A Kilkenny GAA club has confirmed that one of its players has sadly passed away. It's understood that the father of two died in hospital today after falling ill during GAA training with his club, Kilmacow, late last week. 33-year-old Luke Harney was living in Ferrybank but hailed from Grannagh, Kilmacow, Kilkenny. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at University Hospital Waterford.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has ruled herself out of running in the Presidential Election. She says she's informed her colleagues that her name will not be going forward to represent the party in next month's election. Sinn Féin will bring a proposal to members about the party's stance on the presidency on September 20th. Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys remain the only two candidates officially declared, with Fianna Fáil due to nominate their candidate this week.

A new mobile payment service will be launched next year, supported by AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB. Zippay will be available on people's existing mobile banking apps. It's hoped the new service will rival Revolut, which has over three million users in Ireland. More than 5 million current customers can use the service, which is being delivered by the European Pay Tech, Nexi. Brian Hayes, Chief Executive at the Banking Payments Federation Ireland, says the app has been successful across Europe.

Revenue officers have seized over €109,000 in cash and more than €26,000 worth of illicit tobacco during a search operation at a residential property in Waterford. The operation, which took place on Friday, was carried out with the support of Revenue teams from Kilkenny and Rosslare, and was conducted in conjunction with An Garda Síochána. During the search, officers uncovered 29.65 kilograms of Amber Leaf tobacco.

News Rescue117 helicopter A man has been airlifted to hospital after he fell overboard from a ferry travelling across the Shannon Estuary. The incident occurred this morning on the ferry route between Tarbert, Co. Kerry, and Killimer, Co. Clare. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 9 a.m. when a report was received that someone had gone overboard. The ferry crew began an immediate search and contacted the Irish Coast Guard.

Police in Sydney said the victim was pulled from the water by other surfers but had sustained catastrophic injuries.
