SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's unemployment rate edged down to 3.6% in June as the state's economy added an estimated 26,300 nonfarm payroll jobs over the past 12 months, state officials announced Friday. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell one-tenth of a percentage point from May, leaving approximately 66,200 Utahns unemployed, according to data released by the Utah Department of Workforce Services. By comparison, the national unemployment rate also dropped a tenth of a point to 4.2%.

LOGAN, Utah — A 20-year-old Logan man has admitted to raping a 13-year-old girl from North Logan. Walter Adonay Vasquez-Aguilar has been in the Cache County Jail since his arrest Oct. 21, 2025. According to court records, Vasquez-Aguilar appeared July 8 in Logan’s First District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

LOGAN – The last regular season offering from the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre closed on July 11 at the Utah Theatre, making way for the teen edition of the musical Amélie that is slated to debut on Friday, July 24. John Curtis (R-UT) has joined a coalition of more than 60 senate colleagues proposing legislation targeting major purchasers of Russian oil and gas to hold them accountable for supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine. Their bipartisan proposal is dubbed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 because it was originally championed by the late senator from South Carolina, along with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

Lehi man confesses to selling stolen trailer in Cache Valley, awaits sentencing
LOGAN — A 43-year-old Lehi man has admitted to selling a stolen trailer with an altered vehicle identification number to a Cache Valley buyer. Wade Lamar Peacock accepted a plea deal to reduced charges and will now await sentencing. According to court records, Peacock appeared July 8 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony, and altering a vehicle identification number, which was amended to a third-degree felony.
