Abraham Bolden, First Black White House Secret Service agent to be honored this weekend
Abraham Bolden, the nation’s first Black White House secret service agent who was pardoned by President Joe Biden years after he was wrongfully convicted, will be honored this weekend in by his Chicago neighborhood. Virigina Washington, Bolden’s caregiver, said he will be given a plaque during festivities that will begin at noon on Saturday, July 18 in the 7600 block of Sangamon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Bolden lives in the same home in the neighborhood when he made history in 1961.
Services set for Johnson Publishing Company’s Lydia Eady
Public relations executive Lydia Joanna Davis Eady is being remembered after an illustrious career that included serving two decades as vice president for promotions and public relations for Johnson Publishing Company, the former parent company of EBONY and Jet magazines. Eady died July 8. She was 68. Details of her death were not disclosed. Her visitation and funeral will be held at Callahan Funeral Home, 7046 S. Halsted. The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 17.
Services begin tomorrow for business pioneer George E. Johnson
George Ellis Johnson, the business mogul and pioneer who made a fortune by helping revolutionize the Black hair careindustry with Johnson Products, will be laid to rest this weekend. His visitation will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 at Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 7838 S. Cottage Grove. Johnson’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17 at Trinity Church of Christ, 400 W 95th St. He will be buried at Oak Woods Cemetery in Greater Grand Crossing.
