Local practice Note Design Studio has completed Villa Österlen, a holiday home in southern Sweden designed as a contemporary take on the traditional rural dwellings of Skåne county. Capable of hosting large family gatherings, the holiday retreat sits within a rolling green landscape close to Hanö Bay, overlooking fields, woodland and a nearby village.
ZHA 3D-prints voluptuous chair from recycled plastic
Architecture studio ZHA, formerly Zaha Hadid Architects, has worked with Spanish brand Nagami to launch the 3D-printed Echo Chair made from recycled plastic. The sculptural chair, envisioned using parametric design software, features an arching backrest that extends to the ground in one plane and a seat that scoops up at the sides to hug the sitter.
Italy's former head of motorways sentenced to 12 years over Ponte Morandi collapse
Giovanni Castellucci, former head of Italy's motorway operator Autostrade per l'Italia, and 31 other people have been convicted over the 2018 collapse of the Ponte Morandi bridge in Genoa, which killed 43 people. Castellucci was sentenced to 12 years in prison, the highest of those convicted in the case, for complicity in multiple counts of manslaughter through negligence, reported The Guardian. He is currently serving a six-year jail term for a road disaster in 2013.
