I’m Christian Payne, photographer, writer and train rider. In my day to day I improvise, diagnose, document and teach. But in this weekly dispatch I seek out novelty and explore the relations between things. Thanks for joining in. This dispatch is music heavy as since we last interacted I've been lucky enough to see and photograph six bands that I’d never seen live before. All six gigs were in Edinburgh over two days.
What We Need Is Here [593]
I’m Christian Payne, photographer, writer, smallholder. In this weekly dispatch I channel a little of my weekly online/offline endeavours in order to seek out novelty, explore the relations between things and ponder where we might be going. Thanks for joining in. Some weeks I feel like I’ve done little but thanks to a daily journal I'm reminded that a lot of ‘little’ adds up to… a lot. Plus I compiled my taxes yesterday. Which is huge.
A Wandering Existence [2160]
While walking the dog this morning I spotted a man coming along the road pulling a four-wheeled cart loaded with what looked like everything he owned. Obviously, I had to stop and find out what was going on. His name is Adam Richards and he was just about to cross the border from Scotland back into England, part way through a 2,433-mile walk that started …
It can never be the same [592]
I’m Christian Payne, photographer and writer. In this weekly dispatch, like many others, I seek out novelty and explore the relations between things. But mostly, I'm writing to find out what I think. Thanks for stopping by. After hanging out with my radio buddies over the weekend, this last week has been somewhat music focused. The hosting and entertaining of friends as we built an international radio station in the garden meant pub trips and late nights.
Things We Choose To Keep [591]
I’m still Christian Payne, autotelic, photographer, writer and soon to be weekend surfer. As ever in this weekly dispatch I seek out novelty, explore the relations between things, how we share, what we share and consume, but I have currently no idea where we might be going. Which in one way is refreshing. Thanks for joining in. Greetings! I have guests arriving today, so will be speed writing this jigsaw of a dispatch as I madly attempt to brain dump the things I remember happening this last week.
Relax and Float [590]
I’m Christian Payne, generalist and writer and you could be here for a number of reasons, all of which I hope are a result of your own free will. Thank you for opening this email… It’s long so may be ‘truncated’ in some of your email clients. I spotted this notification on Substack this week. I’m not the slightest bit bothered about the ranking thing.
Soft Fascination [589]
After a week sailing in the Med I'm back! Thanks for your patience. If you are new here… I’m Christian Payne, glorified blogger, photographer and writer. In this weekly dispatch I seek out novelty, explore the relations between things, how we share, what we share and consume, plus where we might be going. Noticing the small things can change how we see the big stuff. Thanks for joining in.
Beauty, Ruin and Resupply [588]
In this weekly dispatch I’m on a boat. Yes, I will still seek out novelty and all that kind of thing… but as I'm writing this on my phone while at sea with almost no connection, this might be more scant than usual.
Narrative Velocity [587]
I’m Christian Payne, photographer and writer and currently on the road. In this weekly dispatch I seek out novelty, explore the relations between things, how we share, what we share and consume, plus where we might be going. Thanks for joining in. I’m on the way home after having been away for 10 days. It’s been an absolute blast. From full immersion of EMF camp to catching up with as much family as possible. Not sure how I can summarise EMFcamp and do it justice.
Deliberately Whimsical [586]
I’m Christian Payne, autotelic, photographer and writer. In this weekly dispatch I’m standing in the bar at EMF camp. This is one of the easiest places on planet Earth to seek out novelty, explore the relations between things, how we share, what we share and consume, plus where we might be going. You really have to be here to get a sense of what this is all about. But I'll try to give you a glimpse. It’s also bloody hot. But if you are south of Newcastle in the UK you probably knew that.
