Search ArticlesShould you delete old blog posts from your website?
If your website has been around for a few years, there’s a good chance you’ve built up quite a collection of old blog posts. Some might still bring in visitors every month. Others may be gathering digital dust, containing information that hasn’t been relevant for years. So, should you delete them? The answer is sometimes, but age alone isn’t a good enough reason. Start by looking at whether the content is still useful An article written five years ago isn’t automatically bad content.
What is search intent?
Search intent is the reason behind a Google search. In the simplest terms, it reflects what somebody is really looking for when they type something into a search engine. For example, if someone searches for “best running shoes”, they’re probably comparing their options. If they search for “buy Nike running shoes size 6”, they are much closer to making a purchase. Same search engine, different intentions.
Google warns businesses against using fake authors
Google has updated its guidance for website owners to warn against using fabricated author profiles to make content appear as though it’s been written by an expert. The guidance identifies invented names, AI (artificial intelligence)-generated headshots and false qualifications as examples of deceptive authorship. Often, these methods are used to create a misleading impression of human expertise.
Are local customers finding your business online?
Most business owners know that being visible on Google matters. What often gets overlooked is how important it is to appear in searches made by people nearby. If somebody searches for a solicitor in Chester, an accountant in Liverpool or a garage close to where they live, Google is trying to work out which businesses are genuinely relevant to that area. Local SEO is the work that helps make that connection clearer. A good place to start is your Google Business Profile.
Google Gemini adds UTM parameters to improve AI traffic tracking
Google has started adding UTM parameters to links shared through its AI chatbot, Gemini. This addition should make it easier for website owners and online marketers to identify when visitors have arrived on their site through the AI platform. In a recent update, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) began identifying traffic from AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity categorising these visits under the “AI Assistants” channel.
YouTube to add shopping feature to Ask YouTube AI
People often turn to YouTube before buying something. They want to see how a product looks, hear what other people think of it and work out whether it suits their needs before spending their money. YouTube is now testing a new way to help them do that, which could give online retailers another opportunity to be discovered. The new shopping feature is being added to Ask YouTube, the platform’s experimental AI (artificial intelligence) search tool.
Google Search Console adds new filter for image-based searches
Google has introduced a new feature to its performance monitoring tool, Google Search Console, that enables website owners to see when people have found their site by searching with an image. Traditionally, Google Search Console has reported on how websites perform for text-based searches carried out in Google.
What should a business website include?
A good business website should do more than simply tell people who you are – it should help visitors understand what you offer, why they should trust you and what they should do next. While this might sound straightforward, it’s surprisingly easy for websites to become cluttered, confusing or too focused on the business rather than the customer. Offer a clear explanation of what you do One of the most important things your website needs is a clear message.
Google could offer AI search alternatives, but rivals face conditions
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed changes that could allow UK users to select an AI (artificial intelligence) assistant as their default search service through Google’s choice screens. However, services such as Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity aren’t guaranteed a place, as the regulator is still consulting on the requirements they would need to meet. Those requirements include security and technical conditions.
Should businesses still use Facebook?
Facebook has been around for a long time, and with so many newer platforms competing for attention, it is reasonable to wonder whether businesses should still be using it. The short answer is yes, but how you use Facebook is worth paying attention to. For many businesses, Facebook is still an important part of their online presence. Customers may visit your page to check opening hours, read reviews, look at recent posts or simply make sure the business is active and legitimate.
