Photo: Nick Johnson A new kosher Mediterranean restaurant called Liba (107 N. 12th St.) opened earlier this month in the former home of Australian restaurant Isla & Co. at the base of The William Vale. Isla & Co. moved its Williamsburg home from 107 North 12th Street to 66 Grand Street last year. Liba is a new restaurant concept from the team behind 12 Chairs Café, an Israeli spot that has operated a location in Williamsburg since 2015.

Where the incident unfolded near 77 Commercial Street. Image via Google Maps. A 32-year-old man is recovering after an early morning shooting near 77 Commercial Street in Greenpoint. The unnamed individual was shot in the chest and right arm around 1:15 am on Monday. Police transported the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition; he is now in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Not much is known about the situation.

After 44 years in Williamsburg (211 South 4th St.), the nonprofit El Puente moved out of its headquarters last month. Although the team has witnessed increasing gentrification and displacement in Los Sures, they left after securing capital funding and is now looking to purchase a permanent space in the neighborhood, Dianne Morales, executive director, told Greenpointers.

Last month, Barcade posted a sort of “in memoriam” about the early days of their inaugural location on Union Avenue in Williamsburg—where they’ve remained since 2004. In that same post, the arcade bar also gave notice that their lease is ending in under 1,000 days. Ashbox Cafe in Greenpoint. Photo: Ashbox Cafe After 18 years, Ashbox Cafe (1154 Manhattan Ave.) has closed its doors. The beloved neighborhood staple stopped serving in July, but just recently confirmed the closure with an announcement on Instagram. Ashbox Cafe served Japanese-leaning healthy fare for breakfast and lunch from owner, chef, and server, Yoko Kubo.

Everyone’s on vacation, or it’s just too hot for anyone to make any big news. But this month has proved the exception to the rule, with neighbors coming together to call out the MTA, fight back against plans for a marina at Transmitter Park, and lend each other a helping hand.

Skip to content Kimchee Market (191 Greenpoint Ave.) is looking for a new home, now that a developer reportedly plans to construct a six-story condo building. The current location has about six months left. Kimchee Market’s Chul Kim tells Greenpointers that he hopes to find a new space in Greenpoint or Williamsburg, one with a kitchen and refrigeration.

The entire space is now called Bar Milagro, and an official relaunch will take place on September 17, from 8 p.m. until late. Owner Jorge Boetto tapped Dolly’s co-founder Raffaello Van Couten to help redefine the Mexican spot.
