Hope you’re making plans for Halloween costumes, cookies, apple picking, and a hay bale ride (though you’ll probably have to leave the neighborhood for those last two). As the nights get colder, they also get longer, meaning it’s great news that the McCarren Park tennis courts just got some additional lighting, so players can keep at it longer.

While there tends to be much ado about dogs in the neighborhood, that doesn’t mean there’s no cat presence—from rescues like Greenpoint Cats to community-fed and bodega cats to the feline-themed café and floral shop Flower Cat (162 Noble St.), there are numerous chances to feel and show cat appreciation. Colombian coffee shop Pueblo Querido is sticking around—for the time being. In March, it looked all but certain that burger chain Harlem Shake would take over the Pueblo Querido space at 698 Manhattan Avenue. The ink was drying on a lease between the burger chain and landlord Josh Goldberg. Pueblo Querido, owned by Christian Guzman Herrera, struggled to pay rent in 2025, and Goldberg assumed the coffee shop couldn’t afford to stick around much longer.

Your body is changing, your hormones are going crazy, and you develop hair in areas you never knew you could. For neurodivergent kids, it can be especially challenging to make sense of it all. Greenpoint local Maddy Kramer, alongside Andrea Messina and illustrator Mireia Córcoles, recently published Lila’s Period Story to help kids figure out the changes to come and how to handle them.

Source: Solidcore Greenpoint on Google Maps. The fitness footprint continues to expand in the neighborhood, now with the addition of chains Solidcore and Yoga Box. Solidcore is now open at 771 Manhattan Avenue, in the space that used to be home to the T-Mobile store. Solidcore is a popular high-intensity, low-impact workout designed to target the core, upper, and lower bodies and done on reformer machines. There are eleven class formats for athletes of varying levels, including beginners.

Cocina Del Sur (52 North 11th St.) has been serving Latin American comfort food for years in Manhattan, and now owner Ronny Abenhaim has brought his cooking to his own neighborhood. Abenhaim grew up in Colombia and fell in love with cooking as a child with his grandmother.

The family-owned Greenpoint business lost their lease this summer but will soon reopen at 630 Metropolitan Avenue. The small storefront most recently housed a print and copy shop. Today, October 6, is the last day to do any pick ups. Kubuś will then close from October 7-12 before opening in the new location on October 13.

The culmination of McCarren Tennis Association’s “Light Up McCarren” campaign happened recently with the completion of the court lighting project. The project included the installation of eight new state-of-the-art light poles, energy-efficient LED fixtures, and electrical infrastructure and lighting controls. By enabling play into the evening, the new lighting adds the equivalent of one full month of playing time per year.
