Previewing the 2026 Portland Writers Picnic
On today’s In Depth, we’re previewing the annual Portland Writers Picnic, which takes place Sunday, September 13th. The picnic has become a wonderful tradition for everyone in the Portland literary community. Writing can be a lonely pursuit at times, and the picnic is a way of getting folks together, comparing notes on the craft, meeting old friends and making new ones. KBOO has been previewing the picnic now for several years, and that’s become a very welcome tradition for us as well.

Tanking the Tanks

For years residents in North Portland and the Linnton neighborhood in Northwest Portland, have been trying to get their voices heard as they raise concerns about the dangers these tank farms pose.

Judith Arcana: a celebration of life (re-broadcast)
A good friend and KBOO colleague, Judith Arcana, passed away last December at the age of 82. One of Judith’s final wishes was to have a celebration of life hosted by the Chicago Abortion Fund, an organization that continues the work she started as a member of the Jane Collective, an underground group of Chicago-based women who provided pre-Roe v Wade abortions from 1968 to 1972.
